Calorimetry

DSC

Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC)

The Nano-DSC from TA Instruments is used for the direct measurement of the amount of heat absorbed or released by the unfolding of proteins at a specific temperature ramp rate. The temperature difference between the sample and reference cells is used to calculate the thermodynamic parameters of the unfolding protein.

ITC

Isothermal Titration Calorimetry (ITC)

The Nano-ITC from TA Instruments is used to directly measure the heat released or absorbed by biomolecular binding events. The data is used for the determination of the thermodynamic binding parameters, including the binding constants (Kb), reaction stoichiometry (n), enthalpy (ΔH), and entropy (ΔS).

PCR

Real-Time PCR

The Mx3005P QPCR system from Agilent is ideal for a wide variety of applications. One of the main applications for our laboratory is the high throughput screening of proteins’ thermodynamic stability using Sypro-Orange as a reporter dye.
