Roaa Mahmoud

Dr. Roaa Mahmoud earned her Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the American University of Sharjah before pursuing her Ph.D. in Chemistry at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia, USA, starting in 2019. During her doctoral research in the Dhakal Lab, she focused on characterizing DNA Holliday junctions and investigating their interactions with DNA damage repair proteins.

Upon completing her Ph.D. in late 2024, Dr. Mahmoud began her postdoctoral training in the Structural Biology and Biochemistry Core (SBBC) Lab at NYU Abu Dhabi under the supervision of Prof. Wael Rabeh. Her research explores the biophysical and biochemical properties of various enzymes, with a particular emphasis on luciferase enzymes, which are key to the bioluminescence observed in fireflies and beetles. Through her work, she aims to deepen our understanding of enzyme function and structure, contributing to advancements in biochemistry and molecular biology.
